Irandu strikes
Three movies released last week-end - Madhavan's Irandu, Vishal starrer Sivapathikaram and the all newcomer starrer Aavani Thingal.
Fortunately for Madhavan, Irandu directed by Sundar C and produced by Kushboo, has taken a bumper opening in Chennai and the suburbs. A hilarious entertainer, the movie features Madhavan in dual roles. The comedy scenes featuring Vadivelu plus the glamour of Reema Sen and Anushka are the other major highlights of the movie.
Vishal's Sivapathikaram carries positive reviews. However, the movie lacks pace and moves very slowly in the first half. Musical score by Vidyasagar and a mass theme has helped the movie witness an average opening as well.
Giving a challenge for Tamil films this week in Chennai is Hindi Dhoom II starring Hrithik Roshan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. Also the James Bond movie Casino Royale, featuring Daniel Craig as James Bond, opened big last week.
Performance of last week's films
Among films released for Deepavali, Varalaru, Vallavan and E alone have managed to survive in theatres. Ajith's Varalaru and Jeeva's E continue their good run. Both films have managed to attract good crowds and are now in the sixth week along with Silambarasan's Vallavan.
There was a drop in collections for Arjun's Vathiyar and Srikanth's Kizhakku Kadarkarai Salai. Vathiyar, in fact, opened big. Unfortunately, it witnessed a dip in its collections as it entered the second week.
Forthcoming releases
The last weekend of November will see four movies namely Iruvar Mattum, Nenjil, Mann and Idhu Kadhal Varum Paruvam getting released.
Iruvar Mattum has just two characters while Idhu Kadhal Varum Paruvam, directed by Kastoori Raja, is a movie based on adolescent love.
